Thanks, Pat, as I wrote to Jaret in response to his remarks, this essay was distilled from a much longer work that my co-author, Andy Sessler and I were working on for inclusion in a book to be published by the Oxford University Press. Andy (former director of the Lawrence Berkely National Lab) died 11 years ago and I suspended the project. I doubt that many will read through the entire essay--Substack is not the most suitable platform. But the events I relate are an immense source of pride for me. At the time we were writing these accounts, I chaired the Committee whose staff provided evidence to convict war criminals, identify the victims of political murder and genocide, innovate the use of satellite imaging to track troop movements and record the destruction of villages--a staff of scientists whose work deserve wider recognition. There is much more to the story, of course.

A yeoman’s work in sifting through massive amounts of material; distilled into an understandable and informative collection of very important historical facts.
